We’re excited to announce that the new 2017 Ford Super Duty has earned the elite title of Motor Trend Truck of the Year, beating rivals like the Nissan Titan and Titan XD, Ram 2500 and 3500 HD, and Honda Ridgeline.
Judged in several areas, including design, efficiency, engineering, performance, safety and more, the Ford Super Duty lineup excelled to such a great degree that Motor Trend says judges knew it would be the winner halfway into testing all models.
Following its full redesign, the 2017 Ford Super Duty lineup has undoubtedly become the standard bearer among heavy-duty trucks, pretty much sweeping all of the segment-best categories one can think of. It’s tops in towing, hauling, torque, trailering technology and overall value.
Motor Trend Truck of the Year judges had plenty of positive comments to share about the F-250 and F-350 that were examined. Testers noted that the Ford Super Duties outshined competitors from Ram when put through fuel efficiency tests. And of course, the jury was impressed by the lineup’s exceptional class-leading 32,500-pound towing capacity, best-in-class 7,630-pound max payload capacity and what they called “stunning” torque.
“With 30,000 pounds in tow, the F-350 was remarkably unfazed,” said judge Chris Walton. “Sure, there’s a sense of weight behind, but not 15 tons. The engine pulled smoothly through the rev range, the transmission clicked off smooth, quick upshifts without surging, and when it came time to slow after the quarter mile, the Jake brake gave me so much compression braking that I felt extremely confident transitioning from off-throttle to gentle braking for the turnaround.”
