This fall, Ford will introduce a Wi-Fi hotspot to its lineup for the first time ever. Select new 2018 Ford cars, trucks and SUVs will offer the hotspot, which is built into the available SYNC Connect system and powered by AT&T’s 4G LTE network.
The hotspot is accessible up to 50 feet away from the car and is capable of supporting up to 10 devices – more than the seven devices that GM’s hotspot can support.
In-car Wi-Fi opens up many possibilities for vehicle owners and passengers. From streaming music and movies to surfing the web, sending emails and more, Ford’s built-in hotspot makes commuting smarter.
The SYNC Connect system allows you to view data usage and signal strength at any time, as well as view and block connected devices. FordPass also comes into the mix, providing a link to AT&T’s account management portal.
If you purchase a new 2018 Ford in the Atlanta area later this year and select a model with the available SYNC Connect Wi-Fi hotspot, you’ll receive a complimentary subscription lasting three months or three gigabytes – whichever comes first.
Additionally, Ford says the following about plans: “Ford owners can select a standalone AT&T data plan. Existing AT&T customers can easily share data among their smartphones, tablets and vehicles with an AT&T Mobile Share Advantage or Mobile Share Value plan.”
After taking a peek at the video above, we expect that several Ford trucks will offer the hotspot, but full details have not been revealed yet. Subscribe to our blog for more updates in coming months!
