There have been many groundbreaking changes made to the F-150 over the past couple of years and Ford has confirmed that another groundbreaking change is to come. We’re excited to announce that an all-new hybrid is next on the list of big updates for the award-winning F-150! According to Ford CEO Mark Fields plans are already in the works to develop a gas-electric version of the truck and he says it could arrive to dealerships as soon as the year 2020.

Ford wants to expand its selection of electrified vehicles, not only to meet new fuel and emissions regulations but also to appease consumer demands for greater efficiency. Efforts to enhance the brand’s electric vehicle lineup aren’t solely focused on cars and SUVs. The F-150 is also going to be a part of the revolution and that’s a big move by Ford.

Fields didn’t have many details about the 2020 Ford F-150 Hybrid, aside from saying that it may have a rear-wheel-drive configuration and will likely be a traditional hybrid rather than a plug-in. We’re very curious to see what changes the company will implement to ensure that the F-150 Hybrid is just as tough as the gas-only models. We’ll keep you updated as we get more information.

For now, current truck shoppers can get their hands on a new 2016 Ford F-150, which just received several updates of its own! Read our 2016 F-150 review for more details.
