With numerous commercial vehicles covering extensive distances each day on North American roads, the electrification of these fleets holds considerable environmental advantages. A significant hurdle preventing many businesses from transitioning to electric fleets has been the insufficient infrastructure. Ford Pro has recently collaborated with Xcel Energy to substantially increase the availability of charging stations. Moreover, businesses in specific states stand to gain from offsetting fees related to upgrading their fleets.
Xcel Energy's Electric Vehicle Supply Infrastructure plan explicitly outlines the establishment of 30,000 new chargers by 2030, directly addressing concerns about access to charging stations. While many fleet operators intend to charge their electric vehicles at their dedicated stations, the installation costs often pose a barrier. Consequently, the new plan includes reimbursement for charger installation costs and post-installation support for businesses. Currently, this reimbursement is applicable only in Colorado, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The program may extend to additional states in the near future, including Texas, South Dakota, North Dakota, New Mexico, and Michigan. Ford Pro will also provide access to Ford Pro Telematics and Ford Pro Intelligence to enhance fleet management.
