As a cornerstone of American manufacturing, Ford continues to lead the automotive industry. Known worldwide, Ford has built its legacy on crafting dependable vehicles and serving as a major employer in the United States. During the recent “ACCELERATE the Essential Economy” gathering in Michigan, Ford leaders detailed the contemporary challenges in the domestic market and the company's proactive approach to addressing them.
What is “ACCELERATE the Essential Economy”?
The “ACCELERATE the Essential Economy” summit convenes a diverse group of stakeholders—from business executives and policymakers to educators and skilled workers—to discuss economic difficulties. Held in September 2026, this was the second such event and was hosted at Michigan Central Station. The location mirrored the importance of the discussions and the resulting strategic plans. Having been painstakingly restored by 3,000 skilled hands, Michigan Central Station is now a prime venue for cross-industry collaboration to address the American skilled-trades deficit.
Ford joined several notable organizations at the conference, including Dycom, The Home Depot, and The Wallace Foundation. This coalition is investing in a public education campaign that will launch in 2027 to attract the next generation of American tradespeople. Drawing on an Ad Council study, the campaign points out that although 38 percent of students consider a trade career, only 11 percent actually plan to pursue one after high school. The coalition's goal is to eradicate the primary hurdles of stigma and lack of awareness.
Ford's Action Plan
Ford and its collaborative partners have devised a thorough strategy to help young Americans discover skilled trades and access robust career options. As a first step, Ford Philanthropy is increasing transportation support nationwide to ensure that getting to work is never a barrier to success. Additionally, the launch of Ford Pro Advantage introduces an industry-first certified pre-owned program for Class 1-7 commercial vehicles across 700+ Commercial Vehicle Centers, facilitating easier access for business owners. To top it off, Ford Philanthropy and JPMorgan Chase announced a $550,000 grant to Focus: HOPE—a Detroit nonprofit focused on job training—in tandem with the rollout of the Michigan Launchpad for Industrial Innovation & Transformation (Michigan LIFT).
