This is the first time ever that Ford has decided to sell the Focus RS in America, something car enthusiasts are going crazy about. While the automaker has said power output will be “well in excess of 315 horsepower,” there’s chatter that the number may be much higher than expected. When the 2016 Ford Focus RS finally makes its way to U.S. dealers later this year, sources say it could offer up to 345 horsepower.
It’s the hot hatch that’s captured headlines on Car and Driver, Motor Trend, Jalopnik and other notable auto websites. Everyone’s excited that the U.S. is finally getting the European loved hatchback and now news that it could deliver 315 horsepower has been blasted out of the water by even better news. We were already elated to hear that RS will be coming to Gwinnett Place Ford, but we’re through the roof that sources say it could offer 345 horsepower! Granted, information regarding the car’s power output has fluctuated since the start; we’ve heard 310 and last time 315. Now the number’s up 29 hp - which is remarkable.
Moving on from speculation about horsepower, what we do know for a fact is this: The 2016 Focus RS gets a new engine - not exactly new, but new to the model. It’s the same Ecoboost four-cylinder seen on the Mustang and Ford says that with it drivers can expect to go from zero to 60 mph in under 5 seconds. Along with a muscular Ecoboost, the 2016 RS will also show off a brand-new all-wheel-system, which is specifically designed to complement the car’s high power output. Previously, the Euro-only version had front-wheel drive, so getting AWD is a definite highlight. Keep an eye out for more details from us as the Focus RS’ release date approaches!
