Heat has to have some way to escape your engine. Otherwise, your engine will start to overheat. An overheating engine can cause serious problems for your vehicle if you don't address the issue in a short amount of time. At Gwinnett Place Ford, we always recommend that you call our service department when you notice that anything is malfunctioning with your vehicle. We'll bring you right in to check out the following areas.

Cooling System

Coolant will pass through your engine block and head as a way to prevent heat from burning up your engine as you drive. When you have a leak of this coolant or something else is malfunctioning in your cooling system, the temperature will begin to rise under the hood of your car.

Water Pump

There is a fan belt in the middle of your water pump that will run when your engine is running. Thanks to centrifugal force, your engine will be able to cool down even though it is generating plenty of power and heat. We take a look for things like a broken belt or broken hoses that can cause a leak.

Your Radiator

As your engine is running, coolant is heated up inside of the engine. A radiator hose inside of the radiator will release the pressure that builds up during this process as things start to boil up. The heat will be released if everything is working as planned. Unfortunately, there's a lot of moving parts within the radiator that can break down.

A Vehicle's Thermostat

Your thermostat needs to block coolant from entering your engine in certain scenarios as a way to regulate temperature. The thermostat will open when the operating temperature is where it needs to be. We have seen plenty of thermostats where the valve is stuck in the open or closed position. We can repair these issues, so your engine doesn't incur permanent damage due to overheating.

How Do Hoses and Belts Work?

Hoses and belts work together to keep your engine from overheating. Proper connections must be formed to keep this process working seamlessly. Slipped belts and hoses with cracks will result in temperature changes.

Contact the service department at Gwinnett Place Ford for more information on how you can prevent your engine from overheating. We'll also help you with any overheating problems that you have been experiencing. We want to make sure that your Ford is protected for years to come.
